The third instalment of the popular video game which captured our imagination over the years offers a lot to the audience. Speedy and fun, the movie focuses on multiple aspects of emotions and relationships, embodying a realistic take on life.
Sonic (Ben Schwartz), Tails (Colleen O'Shaughnessey), and Knuckles (Idris Elba) find the odds stacked against them as they come face to face with Shadow (Keanu Reeves). Locked up for 50 years, Shadow is finally able to escape his prison and is keen on extracting swift and speedy revenge.
Jim Carrey reprises his role as Dr Ivo Robotnik and adds another element of craziness through his dual character, Professor Gerald Robotnik, with the long-lost grandfather and grandson duo teaming up to destroy those who wronged them.
The movie has its stages of cool moments, with Shadow and Sonic slugging it out in hyperdrive.
With both Shadow and Sonic having the same backstory, the movie symbolises the classic case of following the right path, even if the world has been unkind to you. From foes to partners, it highlights the importance of empathy and showcases family bonds, offering a takeaway for the audience.
However, the movie seems haphazard at times, with too much happening on screen and multiple transitions, which work as roadblocks in an otherwise speedy movie. The jokes and puns are also not on target, though Jim Carrey does try his best to deliver justice to his stature.
At the end, Sonic the Hedgehog is a fun paced adventure which is likely to keep you occupied and entertained, though it wont be transporting you to the next dimension with its speed.
