Abhay Deol has just knelt before his girlfriend with a ring; Hrithik Roshan has just broken up with his; and Farhan Akhtar doesn’t have one. And when the three school friends meet in Spain on an adventure trip, you say voila!
Here is something fresh and spirited after a long time. The camaraderie is honest and the pranks real. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara works mainly because nothing is laboured here. Every action is spontaneous, but of course with a Newton-isque reaction. And they make for some comic gems. All the three are master mockers and often find themselves at a loss of legs to pull.
Farhan Akhtar gets the best of lines. Quite natural when sister Zoya is at the helm of affairs. A copywriter-cum-poet, he is on a mission to meet his biological dad. Financial broker Hrithik wants to mint money till 40 and then retire, whereas money is never an issue for Abhay Deol, thanks to his tycoon dad.
The first half is devoted to the three “bonding” after a gap. And the result is Tourism Spain. Not bad at all, as the men travel the length and breadth of an amazing nation. Scuba diving, sky diving, a tomato festival... the roadies are ready for more thrills, with adventure-freak Katrina Kaif joining them midway.
All along, the movie shows how important it is to have a shoulder to cry on — a friend’s shoulder, that is. And it all ends with the famous Pamplona bull run where the three amigos make a spirited sprint after sorting out their own demons.
