He was later produced before the Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court which  granted him bail on a surety of Rs 12,000.

The 42-year-old actor tested negative for alcohol, but was charged with ‘rash and negligent driving’.

Ronit was behind the wheels of his Mercedes when he rammed into a WagonR with four occupants around 6.45 am on Linking Road.   The other car was thrown off the road and overturned.

The occupants of the ill-fated car are Deepak Darera (60), his wife Kaanta (55) and daughters Sneha(29) and Pooja (24). They were on their  way for a picnic.

According to police, the actor himself took the injured to Kokilaben Hospital, where   Kaanta was admitted for spinal injuries. Pooja had stitches on her head whereas Deepak injured his hand.

Sneha, who escaped with negligible bruises, told reporters that  the actor was zooming at over 100 km/ph speed and hit their vehicle.

“ My sister suffered head injury and  mother's left arm has been dislocated and there is also an injury on her spinal cord. He (Ronit) accompanied us to the hospital in a taxi but left soon after,” she said.

Following a complaint by the victims, the police later took the actor into custody  under Indian Penal Code Section 279 (rash and negligent driving) and 338 (causing grievous hurt   endangering lives.)

The actor was subjected to alcohol test at the state-run Cooper Hospital. Results did not reveal traces of any intoxicant consumption.

Resident of the quaint and idyllic beachside locality of the Yari Road area, Ronit earned popularity on television with serials like ‘Udaan’. He garnered accolades for performance in soap operas like ‘Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ and ‘Bandini’. Currently, he stars in the popular bi-weekly courtroom thriller ‘Adaalat’.
