From the makers of Mussanje Maatu comes Chirru, a clean, soft love story with plenty of ‘action’. Mahesh Babu brings back the pleasure of leisured viewing, not everybody’s cup of tea. A bit sluggish and amateurish in the beginning, Chirru picks up full speed post-interval and keeps the audience engrossed.
Several scenes bring to mind Telugu films in the first half and the songs do not lift the film as they are supposed to. Still, Chiranjeevi’s increasing confidence coupled with Mahesh Babu’s dialogues and screenplay keep boredom at bay. Giridhar Diwan gives some pleasant tunes but generally seems to be content to remain in the background. Suvarna’s camera has little else to do except give squeaky clean frames. It is the action department that scores the most, followed by acting. Chiranjeevi and Kiran make interesting contrasts just like Kriti with Rangayana Raghu – the actors getting the nuances just right. This Chirru makes all the right noises. Worth watching.
