Edge-of-the-seat suspense, smile-worthy romance, superhuman fight sequences, punchy lines, and a nostalgia-inducing ‘Madurai veeran thane’ — S U Arun Kumar checks off all the mass-movie mandates, making ‘Veera Dheera Sooran: Part 2’ an electrifying movie experience.

A provision store owner, Kaali (Vikram), is unwillingly drawn back into his old life as a gangster, albeit for just one night. As the night unfolds, he is forced to make spontaneous decisions, in a dangerous game between ex-boss Ravi aka Periyavar (Prudhvi Raj), his son Kannan (Suraj Venjaramoodu), and S P Arunagiri (S J Suryah).

While Vikram’s fans may definitely see this as a comeback mass movie for their cherished ‘Saamy’, Arun Kumar in no way underplays the supporting cast, as is often done in this genre. Stellar acting from every character, starting with Vikram, elevates the film despite some flaws in the storytelling, as the plot gradually loses its grip on suspense towards the end.

S J Suryah steals the show with his portrayal of the revenge-thirsty IPS officer, delivering apt comedic timing. Suraj, ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’ actor breezes through his Tamil debut, impressing with his dialogue delivery and formidable presence in the action sequences, including the much-talked-about 18-minute single-take shot.

Portraying Kaali’s wife, Kalai, Dushara Vijayan shines in the spotlight, matching the veteran Chiyaan Vikram’s presence. The respectful romantic relationship between the lead couple is a refreshing welcome in a mass movie.

Whistle-worthy moments, combined with gripping twists and turns, and Theni Easwar’s luminescent cinematography of the entire night make ‘Veera Dheera Sooran’ a compelling visual delight.
