A standout acting role might launch a career but not necessarily sustain it. Many actors who find fame through a significant role ultimately quit acting for good. While many leave after their wedding to give time to family, few give up after having difficulty in finding new projects or trying new paths, to turning to entrepreneurship or philanthropy.

On Monday morning, actor Vikrant Massey sent shockwaves through the Hindi film fraternity by announcing his decision to take a temporary break from acting. He took to his social media and wrote:

"The last few years and beyond have been phenomenal. I thank each and every one of you for your indelible support. But as I move forward, I realise it’s time to recalibrate and go back home. As a Husband, Father & a Son. And also as an Actor. So coming 2025, we would meet each other for one last time. Until time deems right." (sic)

Vikrant's announcement comes weeks after the release of his latest movie, The Sabarmati Report, which was released on November 15. As he takes a break from films, here we take a look at his self-made illustrious career in showbiz.

Vikrant Massey kickstarted his journey in showbiz in the mid-2000s with Hindi TV serial Dhoom Machaao Dhoom (2007). He played the role of Aamir Hassan and received huge praise from the audience. There was no looking back for him as after he was flooded with offers and was seen in shows like Balika Vadhu, Baba Aiso Varr Dhoondo, Qubool Hai, Gumrah End of Innocence and Yeh Hai Aashiqui and Ajab Gajab Ghar Jamai.

From 2007 to 2014, Vikrant emerged as one of the promising names in the Hindi TV industry and was one of the highest-paid TV stars in showbiz.

After dedicating nearly a decade to television, Vikrant tried his luck in Bollywood, beginning with supporting roles in movies such as Lootera (2013), Dil Dhadakne Do (2015) and Half Girlfriend (2017). He then proved his mettle in acting and gained prominence with performances in movies like A Death in the Gunj (2017), Lipstick Under My Burkha (2017), and Chhapaak (2017), which brought him critical acclaim and awards.

Amid his busy schedule, Vikrant exchanged vows with Sheetal in 2022 in an intimate ceremony.

Building on this momentum, he took on full-fledged roles in major movies. Known as one of the most reliable actors in the industry, Vikrant has a string of successful movies and web series to his credit. The highlight of 2023 was 12th Fail, a film that became a milestone in his career, earning more than ₹70 crore worldwide.

In February 2024, Vikrant Massey and his wife Sheetal Thakur became parents to a son named Vardaan.

On the professional front, Vikrant Massey is reportedly working on three projects that are lined up for 2025-26.
