The 47-year-old superstar, who will next be seen in 'Tree of Life' releasing today in India, says it is hard to feel normal when you know that your every movement is being captured.

"We're hunted. Our kids have to live behind a gate. Outside, there are people with cameras. But I'll take the trade-off. It took me a good decade of hiding in my house and not going outside to even, like, get my arms around this idea of celebrity," Pitt told PTI in an email interview.

"...suddenly people are looking for you to pick your nose or get a shot of you kissing some woman. It's a very discombobulating thing. But Angie and I have got it down pretty well. We have to hide behind some walls, but we manage," he adds.

The actor, who visited India with Jolie during the shooting of 'A Mighty Heart', says their visit to Varanasi will remain a cherished experience.

"We had an amazing time in Varanasi. I have never seen anything like it," he adds.
Pitt is also attached as a producer to the long delayed film, which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes. The film also stars Sean Penn and Jessica Chastain.

Directed by reclusive filmmaker Terrence Malick, the film deals with the question of origin and the meaning of life through the difficult relationship of a father-son.
Pitt, who has three adopted and three biological children with Jolie, says initially he was reluctant to play the role of a less than perfect father in the movie.

"I was a little hesitant about playing the oppressive father, but I felt the story was important. I think about everything I do now, what my kids are going to see, how they're going to feel. But I think they know me as a father, I hope they would just think I'm a pretty good actor," Pitt, who plays a father living in the Texas of 50s, says about his character.

Pitt believes that the film, which does not have the typical packaging of a Hollywood movie, will surprise his fans.

"I was surprised by the structure. I thought it was quite ingenious. This marriage with the micro and the macro I found most interesting, he tells this micro story of this family in this small town in Texas. Then that's juxtaposed with the macro of the birth of the cosmos, cells splitting. I find that quite extraordinary, there seems to be some parallel truths in that," says Pitt.
