The best way to savour “Irumbu Kottai” is to let your imagination run wild.
Reliving and celebrating his fascination for Apache westerns and fast on the draw Djangos he relished in his hey-days, director Devan pays tribute to cowboy films of yore, Tamil “ishtyle”.
The flick is spiced with proverbial sphagetti ingredients and fulsome comedy, Simbu Devan’s forte. He delivers a derring do fun-filled drama that regales till the last credit rolls by.
After his not so successful “Arai En 3-05il Kadavul” and “Imsai Arasan 23am Pulikesi”, Devan hopes it’s third time lucky. With Lawrence Raghavendra living Devan’s gun-totting Apache, the director may have hit the jackpot.
Set in non-descript mythical 18th century, filmed on locations as afar as Andhra, Nagpur, Pune, Palakkad, Puducherry, Mysore and Ambasamudram, ‘Irumbu Kottai’ is embellished with excellent sets by art director Muthuraj of ‘Pazhassi Raja’ fame and excellent photography by Azhagappan.
