The actress, who is known for her item numbers in Bollywood, says her fans will play a crucial role in the all-important decision-making process.
"I started off as a nobody in the industry. But today, whatever I am, it is because of my fans and I want them to be a part of this important decision of my life. Although I will take the final call, my fans and friends from the industry would be a constant guide for me to select the right person," Rakhi told PTI in an interview.
Television viewers will also participate in NDTV Imagine's reality show 'Rakhi ka Swayamvar', where the actress goes on a groom-hunting mission. The audience would get the opportunity to vote for or against the prospective 16 bridegrooms, who have been shortlisted from thousands of applicants.
"My life has always been an open book. 'Swayamvar' is part of our tradition and culture, girls in those days got the opportunity to choose their life partner so why not now," she said when asked what made her go after searching a life-partner on the small-screen.
The actress, known for her outspoken nature has surprised everyone with her coyness on the reality show, which she insists is her real self.
In keeping with tradition, Rakhi will also visit the homes of the prospective grooms to get to know their families better.
"This is not just a show for me, its the most important decision of my life. I have received a whole lot of messages from my fans and friends from the industry congratulating me and saying that they have loved it," she said.
"I believe that viewers like everything that is done with honesty and I am sure they will appreciate and like being a part of my Swayamvar," she said when asked whether the reality show might act as an make-over of sorts for her 'item girl' image.
Appreciating the contestants, she said that although she doesn't have a crush on anyone, yet they are some of them who are nice and impressive.
Apart from the reality show, Rakhi, who has worked in films like 'Chura Liya Hain Tumne', 'Main Hoon Naa', 'Maalamal Weekly' and 'Krazzy 4', will be seen dancing with Rani Mukherjee in a song in Yash Raj's next film 'Dil Bole Hadippa'
Will she change post-marriage?
"I will always be what I am. I will always be honest and speak what is on my mind. I am even the same on the show, nothing changes. But yes, I will have a husband and a family to love and support me," she said.
