Ten climbers from Pune-based Giripremi mountaineering club have created history by reaching the summit of Mt Kangchenjunga, the highest peak in India and the third highest in the world.

The team scaled the peak on the morning of May 15 after fighting adverse weather conditions. This is the seventh successful 8,000-meter-expedition under the leadership of Giripremi’s Umesh Zirpe. He had also led an international expedition of 30 climbers to Mt Kangchenjunga.

Sharing the news with Giripremi members from Kangchenjunga base camp, Zirpe said, “All 10 members of Giripremi reached the summit of Mt Kangchenjunga at the dawn of May 15, 2019 around 5.30 am to 6 am IST. All the climbers started the summit push on Tuesday at 5 pm, and after a gruelling climb of 12 hours, they successfully climbed the peak. There were 30 climbers from all over the world, including those from Giripremi, and they started the summit push yesterday. 21 out of 30 climbers have reached to the top till noon on Wednesday."
