Nine people were injured, some seriously, in the accident on the Pune-Satara highway, police officer Ashish Kale told reporters. They have been taken to the Sassoon Hospital here.
The incident occurred near the newly-constructed Katraj tunnel at about 4.30 am. Most victims belonged to two families of Vavar village in Satara district and were going to Mumbai via Pune. The dead include three women and an infant.
