At least 14 Pakistani soldiers were killed and more than 20 others injured on Sunday when a security convoy was targeted by a roadside bomb in the country’s North Waziristan tribal region.
The incident occurred near Miranshah, the main town of North Waziristan tribal agency, TV news channels quoted security officials as saying.
They said 14 soldiers were killed and over 20 injured in the attack.
No further details were immediately available.
The attack came just a day after the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan chief Hakimullah Mehsud reportedly directed his militants not to target Pakistani troops in North Waziristan.
In a pamphlet distributed in the region on Saturday, Mehsud, asked his militants to abide by the peace deal struck by warlord Hafiz Gul Bahadur with the government, media reports said.
He reportedly said it was binding on the local Taliban to abide by the peace deal and other decisions for maintaining law and order in North Waziristan.
Mehsud said all mujahideen, including foreign militants, should follow decisions made by the local Taliban and the government for smooth running of administrative affairs, according to the reports.
