19-year-old set ablaze by spurned lover in Kerala

A 19-year old girl was stabbed and set on fire by youth for refusing marriage proposal at Tiruvalla in Pathanamthitta district in Kerala on Tuesday. The girl suffered about 60% burns.

According to police, the accused, identified as Ajin Reji Mathews, 19, stabbed the girl, poured petrol over her and set her on fire. The incident occurred around 9 am. Locals rushed her to hospital. Ajin was intercepted by the local people and handed over to police.

Ajin and the victim girl studied together. Though he proposed to her several times, she rejected it. This was the provocation for the attack. The girl, who was residing at Thiruvalla, is doing radiology course at Thriuvalla. The youth is also a Pathanamthitta native.
