The VII Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Sunday remanded fake surrogacy racketeer Gurumurthy in three-day police custody.

The police suspect that the racketeer is involved in human trafficking, and they would gather more information during investigation.

The Nandini Layout police on Saturday arrested Gurumurthy, owner of Shrushti Global Trust, on the charge of cheating a couple of Rs 3.5 lakh for a fake surrogate mother. Within seven months, Gurumurthy informed the couple that the baby was born.

The couple questioned about it, but were apparently threatened and lodged a complaint. Gurumurthy has been booked for kidnapping, human trafficking, cheating and criminal intimidation.
