Four civil services aspirants went on an indefinite hunger strike here on Sunday demanding 3 additional chances to appear in the examination.

Raghav Katyayan, Kathikeyan Illankovan, Surendra Patel and Saravanan began their fast unto death agitation near a statue of BJP icon Shyama Prasad Mukherjee in Mukherjee Nagar as the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) recently issued a notification for this year’s examination without taking into consideration their demand.

Katyayan is one of the students of a civil services aspirants group which have been demanding 3 additional chances to take the nationwide recruitment tests for the last 6 months.

They have also staged many protests in the national capital to press for their demand and even wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his intervention. The government, however, did not accept their demand and allowed the UPSC to notify the dates for this year’s civil services examination recently, even as about 200 members of parliament cutting across party line signed a petition in their support while some of them raised the matter in the Parliament too.
