The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Hari Nagar constituency, Jagdeep Singh, was arrested on charges of assault by the Delhi Police on Sunday, and later granted bail, the police said.

Singh had allegedly assaulted the manager of a waste management company on May 21, contracted by the area's municipal corporation,

According to police, the incident happened when some locals approached the complainant, Mohit, for a truck to be used for Shab-e-Baraat celebrations and he refused.

The locals then forcibly took over the truck, which led to a heated argument between them and employees of the waste management company.

Soon Singh intervened and a scuffle broke out.

“He was booked under Section 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and Section 341 (wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code,” said a police officer.
