Arunkumaran, 9, was allegedly kidnapped by a 30-year-old man for a ransom of Rs two lakh. He was rescued within two hours of the incident, police said.
Arunkumaran, son of Selvi who runs a voluntary group, was kidnapped allegedly by Sekar, who had borrowed money from the organisation’s trust. As he could not repay the loan, he had kidnapped the boy to clear the loan via “a deal”, they said.
A police team noticed Sekar and Arunkumaran near the Vaigai dam near Andipatti and questioned them as the boy was weeping. Sekar was arrested and the boy handed over to the mother, they added.
