Secular activists and Christian activists are carrying out a countrywide signature campaign appealing to political parties to nominate new vice-president from their community.
These activists suggested names of people like Margaret Alva (Governor of Rajasthan,) Justice Michael Saldanha (Retd. Bombay and Karnataka High Courts) Oscar Fernandes (Parliamentarian) and H T Sangliana (Vice-Chairman,National Minorities Commission) for the chair.
Talking to the media here, Joseph Dias of The Catholic Secular Forum (CSF) said: “Already thousands of people from community including bishops, priests, nuns, social activists and people from community have signed the appeal.”
