As the Centre was “ignoring” their plea for halting the work, they may have to revive the agitation, Anti-KNPP Activist Sivasubramanian and Convenor of Coastal people’s Federation M Pushparayan said.

Speaking after a consultative meeting held to discuss the future course of action here Sunday night, they said: “We plan to launch the agitation throughout the state.”

On September 22, a core group of 127 people withdrew their 12-day old indefinite fast demanding the scrapping of the project citing safety concerns after Tamil Nadu Government promised to pass a Cabinet resolution for halting the Indo-Russian collaboration project.

Chief Minister Jayalalitha, who had written to the prime minister seeking halting of the work on the project, gave the assurance a day after Union Minister of State in the PMO V Narayanasamy met the protestors at Idinthakarai. Subsequently the state cabinet passed a resolution seeking stoppage of the work.

Sivasubramanian said the Anti-KNPP activists have formed a Scientific committee to prepare a detailed report on the ill effects of nuclear projects.  A group of 150 people from Kerala under the banner Solidarity Council on Monday visited Idinthakarai and pledged their support to the protest against the KNPP.

The group led by A R Sajaar, an anti-nuclear activist of Thiruvananthapuram, said they would urge the Kerala Government also to pass a resolution demanding stoppage of the work on the project as it posed a threat to people of the neighbouring state also.
