In the first meeting to be held after the inauguration, Director General of Civil Aviation Nasim Zaidi, who has been appointed chairman of the Council, will inform the members about the task the body has been assigned with.
The Council has 28 members drawn from various aviation sub-sectors such as airlines (both public and private), flight operations, air worthiness, operations, etc. In addition, representatives from ICAO, FAA, Boeing, Airbus and other organisations will attend the meeting as special invitees.
The CASAC has been set up by the Centre to strengthen aviation safety environment through synergisation of available expertise. It has been set up in the DGCA which will continue to address with momentum all issues pertaining to various areas of safety oversight on airlines’ operations, aerodromes, air navigation and human performance.
A civil aviation ministry release said on Tuesday that the DGCA has started a “Reassurance Drive” which includes airworthiness of the aircraft and its maintenance to ensure that all aircraft operated by scheduled airlines are maintained above the acceptable level of airworthiness standards.
The drive also includes spot checks on the tarmac, maintenance of hangars/stores documentation sections, night inspections and inspection of all ‘critical airports’, including Mangalore.
