The Pink City's s family court has accepted the divorce petition and issued the decree of marriage dissolution of erstwhile Jaipur royal and ex MLA of Sawai Madhopur, Diya Kumari and her husband Narendra Singh.

The court said that couple is legally separated and is no longer husband and wife.

The 47-year-old Diya Kumari, daughter of Jaipur’s last Maharaja Brig Bhawani Singh had married Narendra Singh in August 1997.

The duo, who dated for several years, married each other against the wishes of their family and the Rajput community. But after two decades of married life, the couple decided to part ways. They have a daughter and two sons.

The eldest son Padmanabh Singh has been annointed as Maharaja of Jaipur after the death of his grandfather and former maharaja Bhawani Singh, who had adopted him.

The couple had been living separately, and they had filed a petition in the family court at Gandhi Nagar in Jaipur, Rajasthan, a few months ago under Section 13B (divorce by mutual consent) of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955.

After the news of the divorce petition became public last month, the couple had issued a statement saying, “We jointly state that it is an extremely personal matter for us, and hence, we do not wish to comment further except that we have jointly and mutually decided to part amicably.”

While Diya joined politics in 2013 and was elected as MLA of Sawai Madhopur. She is also eyeing a ticket in Lok Sabha elections 2019.

Narendra, on the other hand, is a hotelier and a renowned polo player. Unlike Diya, Narendra does not belong to any erstwhile royal family.

However, both were Rajput. But the community went against them as they belong to the same gotra.
