An unfortunate incident occurred during a rally held by Former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Saturday when a 65-year-old man named Shri Cheeli Singayya was allegedly run over by the YSRCP supremo's vehicle .
According to a report by Times of India, due to the immense crowd present at the rally, people remained unaware that such a tragedy had taken place and Reddy continued on with his rally.
Guntur police has said that the victim was part of the crowd which had gathered to meet Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. He tried to approach the vehicle in order to shower it with flowers but was killed in the process.
Initially, police believed that the man had been run over by a vehicle in the former chief minister's convoy. However later, it was suggested that it might have been Reddy's vehicle itself.
Reddy was in Rentapalla village, visiting the family of a TDP party member who had died by suicide. However, while the convoy was going to the village, a massive crowd started following them despite the police only allowing three cars and 100 people to accompany the former CM.
The ruling TDP-led government slammed the YSRCP for this incident, while the latter accused the Chandrababu Naidu-led party of resorting to "diversionary tactics, sensationalism, and smear campaigns instead of focusing on governance and public welfare".
YSRCP also said that the vehicle involved in the accident was a private vehicle, not part of Reddy’s convoy.
The party further accused the coalition government of deliberately compromising on his security, while its allies are "using these very lapses to orchestrate a character assassination campaign against him".
