Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu conducted a 'Bhoomi Puja' ceremony on Wednesday, laying the foundation stone for his family residence in Amaravati.
During his 2014-2019 term, Naidu faced criticism from opposition parties for proposing Amaravati as the state capital while not having a personal home there.
The ceremony was attended by his wife Bhuvaneswari, son and IT Minister Nara Lokesh, daughter-in-law Brahmani, and grandson Devansh. Currently, Naidu and his son's family reside in a leased property on the backwaters of the Krishna River in Undavalli.
According to TDP sources, the five-acre property was purchased from a local farming family in December last year. The land is strategically located adjacent to the E9 road behind the Velagapudi Secretariat. With registration processes now complete, construction has commenced on a G+1 model home. The Naidu family intends to complete construction and hold a house-warming ceremony within a year.
The foundation ceremony took place in the southwest corner of the site, which is situated between the temporary High Court and the Secretariat.
The property enjoys excellent connectivity with roads on all four sides—the E10 road to the east, E6 highway to the north, and internal layout roads to the west and south.
Numerous Amaravati farmers gathered to witness the ceremony and celebrated with chants of "Jai Chandrababu" and "Jai Amaravati" following the event. As a gesture of goodwill, villagers from Velagapudi presented silk clothes to the Naidu family.
