Andhra Pradesh Congress chief Y S Sharmila on Wednesday alleged that she has been placed under house arrest.
Addressing CM Chandrababu Naidu, Sharmila wrote, "Why am I house arrested in my villa in Vijaywada? for what reason ? Pls tell the people of AP."
She also asked if going to her workplace, i.e. the party office, is a crime.
"Why are you trying to curtail our constitutional rights? What is your govt afraid of?," she questioned.
Sharmila later met her supporters after she was released, ANI reported.
Speaking to the media after her release, Sharmila said "Why have you house arrested someone who wants to do good to the people of Andhra Pradesh. You and your alliance BJP are doing a gross injustice to the people of the state...Today, because we want to fight for the people, you have arrested the Congress chief in the state of Andhra Pradesh, why?..."
She added "..It has been only 2 days since the Congress party in Andhra Pradesh has formed a committee called Amaravati Capital Committee. The Congress party has only formed this committee with a group of 6-7 people. The govt is scared that we're forming the committee...What is Chandrababu Naidu trying to hide? There were so many police personnel to curtail one lady and one party? Andhra Pradesh stands at number 3 in atrocities against women. The police laid their hands on me..."
