Hyderabad: A spurned lover in Andhra Pradesh attacked his girlfriend with acid and a knife on Valentine's Day.
The 22-year-old woman, Gautami has been shifted to a hospital for treatment.
24-year-old man named Ganesh hailing from Madanapalle was in a relationship with Gautami from Perampalli village.
However, Gautami recently got engaged to another person with the wedding scheduled to take place in April.
According to Annamayya district police, she had informed Ganesh that it won't be possible to continue their relationship and invited him to her home on Friday to clear the air.
Gautami's parents were away at the farm field at the time of the incident.
When Ganesh arrived at her house, he came carrying a bottle of bathroom cleaning acid along with a knife.
While they were talking, Ganesh poured acid on her face and stabbed her with a knife.
When she called out for help, neighbours rescued her and moved her to a nearby hospital.
The police were able to catch Ganesh who himself tried to die by suicide by consuming pesticide.
Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu strongly condemned the acid attack on the young woman. He directed authorities to take strict action against the accused and ensure that the victim receives the best possible medical treatment.
He further assured that the government will extend full support to the victim and her family in every possible way.
IT Minister Nara Lokesh reached out to Janardhan, the father of the acid attack victim, to enquire about her health and well-being.
"We will ensure the best treatment for my sister’s recovery. I stand by her as my own sister. This acid attack incident has deeply disturbed me. The attacker will face severe punishment—such individuals will not be tolerated under any circumstances," said Lokesh.
Minister Lokesh also spoke to Minister Mandupalli Ramprasad, who was present, and directed him to take all necessary measures for the victim’s recovery.
He emphasised the need for constant monitoring of her medical treatment and urged the police to take strict action to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
