Following a directive from the Andhra Pradesh High Court, the government had revoked the appointments made by the previous YSRCP government a few days earlier.

Accordingly, Muslim MLC Md Ruhullah and Shaik Khaja, Mutawalli, have been picked under the elected members category.

Other members who were nominated to the Board by the government include Abdul Aziz, Shia scholar Haji Mukarram Hussain, Sunni scholar Mohammad Ismail Baig, MLA Mohamed Naseer, Syed Dawood Basha Baqavi, and Shaik Akram.

The cancellation of the previous Waqf Board by the NDA government in Andhra Pradesh, of which the BJP was also a part, had led to a furor.

The government had to issue clarification that a new board will be reconstituted as the appointment of members to the previous board had become entangled in legal issues.
