Thambiganipalli (Andhra Pradesh): An elderly woman being tied to a pole in a property dispute, in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, as shown in a viral video, is a staged incident, police said on Tuesday.

The purported incident was staged for video by her in-laws in Thambiganipalli village, they added.

Munappa, who had two wives—Gangamma and Munemma—died on July 5, and his final rites were performed on July 13. A property dispute erupted between the members of his family after his death, police said.

In this backdrop, Gangamma was seen tied to a pole using a pipe, with her son Suresh seen standing next to her, in a video that went viral.

When they received a complaint on this alleged act, police went to the spot and found the incident to be staged, Kuppam DSP B Parthasarathi told PTI.

"When the police arrived at the location, Gangamma was standing near the pole with a pipe wrapped around her, but it wasn't tied. It was confirmed that this was a completely staged incident fabricated by Suresh and his side of the family over property disputes. No one else was responsible," he said.

Police noted that Suresh staged the incident in the presence of Munemma's daughters.

After staging the incident, Suresh falsely accused Manjunath, son of his stepmother Munemma, of tying up his mother, Gangamma.

However, police said they found that Manjunath was not even present when Suresh staged the incident.

Police further said that Gangamma suffered no harm, the video was fabricated, and it was an attempt made by Suresh to defame Manjunath.

Rallabuduguru police station booked a case in this regard.
