Hyderabad: In a gas leak mishap at a pharmaceutical factory in Anakapalle, Andhra Pradesh, one worker died, while eight others suffered injuries, with two of them reportedly in critical condition.
The toxic gas leak happened on Tuesday night in Tagoor Laboratories Pvt. Ltd, in the Jawahar Lal Nehru Pharma City (JNPC) of Parawada, affecting nine workers, who were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Abhit Basu, 23, a worker from Odisha, died while undergoing treatment on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the condition of two other workers is said to be critical.
Anakapalle district collector Vijaya Krishnan confirmed that two workers remain critical and were being treated on a ventilator. The remaining workers are safe and out of danger. She directed the factory inspector to visit the pharma company and conduct an inspection of the premises.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu enquired about the mishap and directed the government officials to provide better treatment to the injured victims.
YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed dismay over the gas leak at Tagore Pharma in Parawada. He urged the government to provide quality treatment to those hospitalized and support the kin of the deceased.
