Sources said that Ministry of External Affairs asked Alok Ranjan Jha, a first secretary in India’s Permanent Mission in New York, to return to New Delhi for his alleged misconduct onboard a flight on January 7 last. Jha had topped the civil service examinations in 2002.
Jha is the second Indian diplomat to be recalled to New Delhi this month for allegations of misdemeanours.

The MEA on Sunday transferred Anil Verma, Minister (Economic) in Indian High Commission in London, back to the headquarters in New Delhi as he was accused of assaulting his wife.
The Delhi Police has also been probing into an allegation of rape against another IFS officer. The diplomat was accused of raping a woman, who worked as a domestic help in his household when he was posted in Indian Mission in Kenya.
