The disorderly behaviour of YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) MLAs during the three-day Monsoon Session has prompted the Andhra Pradesh Assembly to pass a resolution banning them possibly for the remainder of their terms.
The last-ever Assembly session in the joint capital would be remembered for the legislators’ violent behaviour as they terrified the Assembly staff and muscled their way into the media centre.
The Opposition party wanted the ruling TDP to reject the special package offered by the Centre in the place of the special status category it has been demanding.
“The YSRCP members behaved deplorably,” noted Legislative Affairs Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, who moved the resolution banning the members, which sailed through with widespread support.
“They pelted the speaker with paper balls and files, attacked the marshals using their woman legislators as shields and stood on benches with their shoes on,” Ramakrishnudu said.
Soon after the Assembly adjourned sine die, the ruling and Opposition MLAs wrestled for the mike to address the reporters. Police had to intervene to stop the fracas.
Addressing the council, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu said he never lost his cool in the Assembly even during the most acrimonious moments like the bifurcation debate or the murder of TDP MLA Paritala Ravi.
After scrutinising video clippings of the YSRCP MLAs storming towards the speaker’s podium and attacking the marshals, government whip Kalva Srinivasulu asserted that action would be taken against the members.
