The Andhra Pradesh government, which had written to the Prime Minister seeking help to deal with the trail of destruction left behind by Titli cyclone in Srikakulam district, has submitted a report to an inter-ministerial central team estimating the loss at Rs 3,673.10 cr.
The team is led by Sanjeev Kumar Jindal, joint secretary (DM), Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
The team, which toured Titli cyclone-affected areas, praised the relief measures taken up by the state government. The central team members met Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu at Praja Vedika in Amaravati on Friday and reportedly responded positively to the proposals submitted by the government.
Rajnath came, no visit
The chief minister explained how the state government monitored the relief measures with the entire state administration camping in cyclone-affected Srikakulam district for one week. He opined that the Central government should have reached out to cyclone victims. Instead, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who visited Guntur to open a party office, did not visit the cyclone-affected regions.
Navy relief
The Eastern Naval Command set up a relief camp at Akkupalli village, one of the worst hit. Commander Sanjiv Issar, Naval Officer in Charge (Andhra Pradesh), formally handed over roofing materials to the Joint Collector, Srikakulam.
The Naval camp manned by one officer and eight naval sailors will operate for two weeks, providing relief and succour to the victims.
