An army man porter was killed in Pakistan ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Monday.
A police officer said Khursheed Ahmad, who was working as a porter with the army's 4-Madras unit, received a bullet injury in the neck and some grenade splinters in both legs near Chaukas along the LoC in intense firing and shelling by Pakistani army.
He suffered multiple serious wounds in the incident and died on the spot, he added.
A defence spokesperson said Indian soldiers retaliated the fire and the exchange of fire continued for some time.
"Soon after the ceasefire violation, the army has started a combing operation in the area," he said.
Meanwhile, an army officer was critically injured after his service rifle went off accidentally in Kandi forest area of north Kashmir's Kupwara district.
Police said Captain VK Sahu of 47-Rashtriya Rifles posted at Keegam received a bullet injury in the incident.
