The Telangana government will be embarking on a week long celebration from Tuesday to observe its Formation Day.
The celebrations are planned to showcase varying culture of the 29th state of the country formed on 2 June 2014. The celebrations will kick-start with Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao paying tributes atMartyrs Memorial, remembering those who lost their lives for statehood.
The cultural and traditional icons of Telangana such as Charminar, Clock tower, Golconda, Budha statue in Tank bund, Kacheguda railway station, Hussainsagar, Assembly will be illuminated. Ghazal Maestro Ghulam Ali will be performing at Charminar on 5 June.
However, the celebrations will be dampened by the fact that the new state has witnessed more than 1,000 suicides by farmers, severe power shortages and broken promises. The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has earned itself the name of an urban centric party whereas the rural Telangana has not received anything tangible from the government.
“This government is essentially incremental. No different from earlier governments. It has not done anything substantial for its people,” D R Nageswar Rao, editor of Hans India, observed.
He said the TRS government has worked against the expectations of the people of Telangana. The general mood in the districts is that of disappointment as KCR’s promise to transform Telangana into a Golden state is yet to be fulfilled.
“The only people benefited during the past one year is the family members of KCR,” TPCC spokesperson Shabbir Ali said.
