Assam Rifles jawan killed, another injured in militant ambush in Arunachal Pradesh

An Assam Rifles personnel was killed and another injured in an ambush by insurgents in Arunachal Pradesh's Changlang district on Sunday, a senior police officer said.

Militants of proscribed outfits ULFA (I) and NSCN (K) are suspected to have been involved in the ambush, he said.

The slain jawan has been identified as Havildar Birendra Singh Yadav, district Superintendent of Police Mihin Gambo said.

"The ambush took place near Tengmo village in Jairampur sub-division around 9 am when the Assam Rifles personnel were returning to their camp in a water tanker after fetching water," the SP said.

The exchange of fire lasted for around 30 minutes, the officer said.

The injured jawan has been admitted to a hospital, Gambo said, adding casualties on the militants' side is not immediately known.

A massive combined search operation by Assam Rifles, the state police and the CRPF is underway, the SP added.
