At least 16 persons have died in various rain-related incidents in the past 10 days in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, which is being pounded by heavy rains.
The rainfall situation in the state is expected to be discussed during the second week of the Monsoon Session of the Maharashtra legislature.
The damage to standing crops has been extensive and the district administration will conduct panchanamas to access the damages.
During his New Delhi visit on Saturday, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the rainfall situation and the Irshalwadi landslide tragedy.
“We have been receiving heavy rains. What rainfall we used to get in 15 days or one month, we are getting now in three to four days,” Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told reporters in Nagpur on Sunday.
On Saturday, an Indian Air Force MI-17 V5 helicopter was pressed into service to evacuate at least 40 villagers marooned in flood waters at Anandnagar-Tanda village of Mahagaon in Yavatmal.
The hub of Vidarbha region, Nagpur and other districts like Yavatmal, Buldhana, and Gadchiroli, has been receiving heavy rainfall over the past few days.
