An auto driver was reportedly "gassed" to death following an altercation with employees of a CNG pump in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut town.

According to police sources here, the auto driver identified as Inam Ahmed (25) was assaulted by the pump employees after he asked them to return the excess money he paid for the gas.

The employees reportedly inserted a gas pipe's nozzle into his mouth, filling his stomach with gas, sources said. The auto driver died on the spot.

The kin of the deceased created a ruckus at the pump and blocked traffic prompting the police to use mild force to disperse them.

Police enforcement had to be called after a mob gathered at the pump demanding action against the culprits.

Police said that a case of murder has been registered against seven employees of the pump and all of them have been arrested. The body of the driver was sent for postmortem.

Police said that they had taken possession of the footage of the CCTV installed at the pump and it is being examined.

The pump manager, Sonu Rana, claimed that the auto driver died because he suffered a cardiac arrest at the pump.
