The passengers of few bogies in the Bangalore bound Sampark Kranthi Express were left behind on Monday morning as the portion attached to the engine chugged forward leaving them stranded between Yakutpura and Uppuguda stations here.

No one was injured in the incident.

According to South Central Railway (SCR) sources, the train left Kacheguda station at around 8:20 am and within minutes the screw coupling linking bogies 7 and 8 snapped.

While the portion attached to the train engine moved forward, the driver noticed that a part of the train was left behind and immeditely applied emergency brakes to stop the train.

Immediately, the MMTS service between Falaknuma-Lingampally was cancelled.

SCR chief public relations officer K Sambasiva Rao said that the front-end portion of seven bogies comprising the engine as well as coach number 5  have been sent to Falaknuma, and the rear end was taken to Kacheguda station.

The passengers from the troubled sleeper coach were accommodated in another compartment.

The bogies were re-attached and the train resumed its journey after three and a half hours.

The SCR has already ordered an inquiry.

Meanwhile, in a press release the SCR thanked the alert driver and the station staff in Kacheguda for averting further trouble.
