»A court in Meghalaya on Friday acquitted a former Bangladesh minister, Salahuddin Ahmed, who was arrested in May 2015 for allegedly trespassing into India, reports DHNS.
The court also ordered the government to deport Salahuddin to Bangladesh.
Ahmed, the communications minister during the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Khaleda Zia's government between 2001 to 2006, was arrested on May 1, 2015, from Golf Link area in Shillong.
A case was subsequently registered under the Foreigners Act for illegally entering India as he could not produce any travel document. The BNP is now in the Opposition.
Ahmed's family, however, had charged that he was picked up by some men who identified them as sleuths of detective branch of the Bangladesh Police.
