New Delhi: As Congress did not field him during the discussion on Operation Sindoor, senior MP Manish Tewari on Tuesday invoked a Hindi song from Manoj Kumar starrer "Purab aur Pashchim" -- I am from India, I speak about India -- in a social media post in which he also shared a news report on being "benched" for the debate.

The party had not named Shashi Tharoor, Tewari and Dr Amar Singh, who were part of multi-party delegations sent by the government abroad to campaign against Pakistan's cross-border terrorism, for the debate. Party sources had said Tharoor was asked by the leadership but he declined.

On the second and last day of debate, Tewari posted a screenshot of a news report titled 'Spoke in favour of govt: Why Congress benched Shashi Tharoor, Manish Tewari during Operation Sindoor debate' and shared four lines of the song from the Hindi film.

"Hain preet jahan ki reet sada, Mein geet vahan ke gaata hoon, Bharat ka rehne waala hoon, Bharat ki baat sunata hoon (Where love is the eternal way of life, I sing songs of that land. I am from India, I speak about India)," Tewari posted four lines of the song on his 'X' handle.

About his post, he told reporters, "There is a proverb in English -- If you don't understand my silences, you will never understand my words." Asked to whom the post was directed, he said, "do some investigative journalism." He did not elaborate on the post.
