Patna: Bihar BJP president Dilip Jaiswal on Wednesday said a censure motion will be passed at the party's state executive meeting against RJD president Lalu Prasad for "insulting" Babasaheb Ambedkar.
Jaiswal spoke to journalists before the commencement of the meeting here, which is being attended, among others, by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
"We are excited that the Defence Minister, who is also a former national president of our party, is here... the party will take a pledge for victory (Vijay Sankalp) in the upcoming assembly polls," the Bihar BJP chief said.
"Altogether 1,200 leaders, including members of both Houses of Parliament and the state legislature, are participating in the meeting where we will pass a censure motion against Lalu Prasad for the disrespect he showed to Ambedkar recently," he said.
The RJD supremo, whose son Tejashwi Yadav is leading the INDIA bloc charge in the polls, has been under attack from the NDA over a video clip in which a portrait of Ambedkar was seen close to his feet.
At a rally in Siwan district a fortnight ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched a scathing attack on the former Bihar chief minister, asserting that the people of the state "will never forgive" him for the disrespect to the Dalit icon.
However, the RJD has claimed that the portrait was being held by a supporter of Prasad who had come to greet him on his 78th birthday but "camera angle" made it appear otherwise.
