A teacher in a school in Bihar is at the centre of a major controversy after he allegedly asked a female student to be his "girlfriend" as "honorarium''.
The teacher who has been identified as Vikas Kumar, works at Kisan High School in Kisanganj district. He has repeatedly harassed a female student of Class 12. The girl has alleged that Kumar suggested they go to Siliguri and also made other inappropriate suggestions.
Citing the story of Ekalavya from Mahabharata, where Ekalavya cut his thumb to give it to his teacher, Dronacharya, Kumar questioned why his student couldn't follow the same example and become his girlfriend.
The girl informed other teachers and made a formal complaint against him at school. However as per the report by NDTV, no police case has been registered yet.
According to the report, sources claim that Kumar made similar propositions to a female collogue and is now married to her.
The headmaster of the school, Shafiq Ahmed has informed the District Education Office. The Education Office has not taken any action and has asked for Kumar to provide an explanation.
Kumar is yet to furnish a reply to the Education Office. He is currently an invigilator at a private school in Kishanganj for the matriculation exams.
Villagers enraged by the lack of action by the authorities held a protest outside the school yesterday. Police arrived at the scene to deal with the situation.
The District Magistrate said they are taking the matter seriously and after investigations are completed, necessary action will be taken.
