Purnea (Bihar): Days after the killing of five members of a family on the suspicion of witchcraft in Bihar’s Purnea, a woman was assaulted by a group of people in the same district on the charges of practising black magic, police said Friday.
The latest incident took place in the Rangpura South panchayat locality under the jurisdiction of Mirganj police station on Thursday.
"The victim registered a complaint with the police. According to her, six people from the locality came to her house on Thursday and beat her up after accusing her of practising black magic," the Station House Officer (SHO) of Mirganj police station, Raushan Kumar Singh, said.
"She immediately locked her inside the room and informed the police. By the time police reached her house, the accused had fled the spot. A case was filed against six people and an investigation is on based on her complaint," the SHO said.
The victim has also been provided with medical help by the authorities concerned.
It may be recalled that five members of a family, including three women, were allegedly killed and their bodies burnt after they were suspected of practising witchcraft in the Tetma locality under the jurisdiction of Mufassil police station on July 6.
The police arrested three persons in connection with the incident.
