New Delhi: Amping up the ante in poll-bound Bihar, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday released a video recalling what it termed as the “Jungle Raj” of the 1990s under former chief minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav.

In a 3-minute video posted on its social media accounts, the BJP said that Lalu unleashed a dictionary of crime in Bihar in his tenure, and there is not much son Tejasvi Yadav can do to erase the memory of the time. Last month, prime minister Narendra Modi recalled the “Jungle Raaj” under Lalu and sought to teach young voters about the “lawlessness” of the decade.

In the video, the BJP says that after he came to power in the 1990s, Lalu unleashed a decade of crime, and alleged that, with it, Lalu also built a “dictionary” of despair. The video mentioned the fodder scam, the murder of two brothers doused in acid by strongman and Lalu aide Shahabuddin, and the Charwaha school system, which the BJP alleged, saw more absenteeism than attendance.

Last month, in a rally at Bihar’s Siwan district, PM Modi said that those in their 20s are unaware of the “Jungle Raj” of the 1990s, when he said that lawlessness, poverty and migration had taken root. He said it was Nitish Kumar who directed the state on a path of progress.
