Patna: Shaken by a series of attacks on Bihar Police in recent days, JD(U) MLA Sanjeev Kumar urged Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to implement the 'Yogi model' — a hardline approach to law enforcement — to deal with criminals.

A wave of terror unleashed by criminals has left two police officers dead and 17 cops injured.

“There is no alternative but to adopt the 'Yogi model', where bullets are met with bullets. If we offer flowers to criminals firing at cops, we must be ready to lay wreaths on the bodies of martyrs,” said the ruling party MLA.

In the past week, two Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) lost their lives — one in Munger and another in Araria — while several other officers were injured in seven separate attacks on the police.

Nitish convened a high-level meeting with Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena and DGP Vinay Kumar, directing them to ensure that no criminal escapes justice. “Take the strictest action against offenders without any discrimination, and investigate whether these incidents are part of a larger conspiracy,” he told the top officials.

"The police showed restraint during the festive season of Holi. However, we will not hesitate to use force if attacked. In self-defence, we will respond with bullets,” said Additional Director General (Law and Order) Pankaj Darad.

Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav criticised CM Nitish over the recent attacks on police, citing National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data that recorded 60,000 murders and 25,000 rapes in Bihar over the past 20 years.

“Nitish has held the Home Department for the last 20 years, yet the government has surrendered to criminals," Tejashwi said.
