Patna: The Bihar Police on Monday conducted searches at several locations linked to associates of RJD MLA Ritlal Yadav from Danapur constituency and a close aide of the Lalu Prasad family, as part of its investigation into an extortion case in Patna, officials said.
Searches were conducted on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday to nab four associates, who were absconding, of RJD MLA at Kothwa village in Danapur.
The RJD MLA is already in judicial custody in the same case.
While speaking to PTI, the City Superintendent of Police (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh said, "Searches were conducted to nab four absconding accused, who are associates of Ritlal Yadav, based on a complaint filed by a person." "The complainant in his complaint alleged that the accused persons demolished the structure of a building, which he was constructing in the Danapur locality when he allegedly failed to pay the extortion amount demanded by the latter," the police officer said.
He said the RJD MLA is also an accused in the case. The police will soon nab the absconding accused as search operations are still on, said the SP.
It may be recalled that MLA Ritlal Yadav had surrendered before a court in Patna on April 17.
The RJD MLA, representing the Danapur constituency, and his three other associates—Chikku Yadav, Pinku Yadav and Sharavan Yaav—were sent to judicial custody.
Talking to reporters at the Danapur court, the RJD MLA had said, "I am a victim of a political conspiracy... there is a threat to my life... I might be killed. If I remain alive, I will file papers seeking bail. Some officials are against me... I repeat: there is a threat to my life." "Attempts to kill me have been ongoing for the last several months. A sophisticated weapon was made available to my rivals by some officials, to eliminate me," the MLA had said.
