West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday lashed out at the BJP for their demand that West Bengal be declared a sensitive state.

“What is the logic behind the BJP’s demand that all booths be declared sensitive in West Bengal. Since they can’t win a single seat in Bengal they are raising the issue of Central Forces as an excuse,” Mamata said while addressing the media after a meeting with the TMC candidates.

The chief minister also asked on what basis the BJP claims that all the booths in the state are sensitive.

She further alleged that since the TMC is critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah, West Bengal is being targeted by the ruling party at the Centre.

“How did the BJP prepare the list of sensitive polling booths. Since we are speaking against Modi and Amit Shah they are targeting Bengal,” she said.

She also said that Election Commission(EC) should act impartially.

The chief minister also slammed the BJP urging the EC to appoint a media observer in Bengal. She alleged that BJP was trying to control the national media.

“We never tried to control the media. Media works freely in Bengal. The BJP’s demand for a media observer in Bengal is an insult to the state,” she said.

Mamata also accused the BJP of spreading fake news.

Earlier in the day, the BJP had urged the EC to declare West Bengal as a “super sensitive state.”
