The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Friday accused the BJP of resorting to “malicious propaganda” by alleging that the West Bengal government denied permission for their rath yatra and said that the TMC had nothing to do with it. The ruling party in the state challenged the BJP to show evidence in support of its claim.
The TMC further alleged that the saffron party was trying to claim “victimhood” by blaming the State Government in relation to it’s rath yatra.
“GoWB has not denied permission to any Yatra, as claimed by @BJP4Bengal.They are indulging in malicious propaganda with neither substance nor truth.BJP must show material evidence of GoWB denying permission to their Yatra. This is BJP’s attempt to claim victimhood,” the TMC stated in a tweet.
Pointing out that a BJP functionary sought permission for the rath yatra from the Chief Secretary and was directed to the local authorities, the TMC stated that the matter was “sub-judice” as a PIL had been filed in the Calcutta High Court in this regard.
“A BJP functionary had sought permission from Chief Secy, whose office directed them to local authorities. Meanwhile, a PIL was also filed regarding the same in the High Court & the matter is now sub judice. We thereby clarify that AITC has nothing to do with this,” the TMC stated in another tweet.
The development comes a day ahead of BJP’s rath yatra which will be kicked off by party president J P Nadda from Nawadip in Nadia district.
Earlier State BJP president Dilip Ghosh said that the TMC was planning to disrupt the rath yatra but it’s attempts would be futile. A PIL was filed in the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday seeking it’s intervention to stop the rath yatra claiming that it would have an adverse impact on law and order and Covid-19 situation in the state.
The saffron party seeks to cover all the 294 Assembly seats in the state with the month-long rath yatra. Held in five segments, the yatra will start from Nabadwip, Kakdwip, Tarapith, Jhargram and Cooch Behar on Saturday, Monday and next Tuesday. Besides Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to take part in the program during its later stages.
