The Congress party trashed the BJP's manifesto describing it as a "document of deceit" and asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to issue an apology instead for “misgovernance” for the last five years.

Congress leaders Ahmed Patel, M V Rajeev Gowda and Randeep Singh Surjewala took the stage to counter the BJP manifesto with a document titled "125 Broken Promises of BJP Manifesto – 2014". They even issued a parody of the BJP manifesto with the title 'Ek Bharat Berozgar Bharat' carrying an inverted image of the BJP's election symbol 'lotus'.

"The BJP should have released an apology instead," Patel told reporters here even as he described the BJP manifesto as a "bagful of lies".

Gowda claimed that the BJP manifesto was full of contradictions which were evident right upfront. "This says we will reduce taxes and at the same time they say we will increase tax collections," he said. accusing the BJP of trying to fool people.

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said the Prime Minister's central 'mantra' was to “trap people by deception”.

The Congress accused the BJP of copy-pasting its 2014 poll document and changing all previous deadlines. "Luckily, they didn't shift any deadlines to the next century," Patel quipped.
