"We wish to expedite resolution of this issue in the Golden Jubilee year of the foundation of Maharashtra state. My government is in favour of resolving it in co-ordination with Karnataka," Chavan told the Legislative Assembly while replying to the motion of thanks to the Governor for his address to the joint session of the state legislature.
At the same time, Maharashtra will not tolerate injustice on the Marathi-speaking people of Belgaum, Karwar, Nippani and other areas on the Maharashtra-Karnataka boundary, he said.
"There will be no compromise on this issue," he asserted.
Chavan sought the co-operation of Shiv Sena-BJP combine in bringing Karnataka on the negotiation table, as BJP is in power in Karnataka.
"Our stand is that of consensus and co-ordination with Karnataka. We have moved the Supreme Court and the apex court's verdict would be binding," he said.
Speaking about the allegation of corruption in purchase of bullet proof jackets and metal detectors, raised by leader of opposition Ramdas Kadam, Chavan said he would conduct an inquiry into it, adding as per the purchase manual, old purchase receipts are disposed off.
"The purchases you are referring to may be of the period of 1999 to 2002 in which 955 bullet proof jackets were purchased," he said.
During the occasion, Chavan said his government has announced one time settlement of electricity bill arrears for Gram Panchayats.
"The interest amount and penalty would be waived off. They should only pay the remaining amount in six installments," the Chief Minister said.
Defending the decision to introduce on line admissions, he said the move will bring transparency in college admissions. He said the colleges can switch to the manual system if there is a problem in the online procedure.
"The online method will actually save the students trouble of running from one college to another to check their admission status," he said.
Chavan said he would soon unveil an employment policy for people with domicile of more than 15 years.
He said a provision of Rs 200 crore would be made by the state to complete the pending railway projects in Vidarbha and Marathwada areas.
The state government will also approach the Centre for a railway line between Nashik and Pune as part of the development of the Mumbai-Pune-Nashik Golden Triangle, Chavan said.
He said the state government plans to undertake an expansion plan for all the 22 airports under its jurisdiction to facilitate night landing.
Chavan said the state government will prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for upcoming cities in the state with good potential for development.
