The Maharashtra legislatures four-week-long Budget Session will be held from February 27 to March 25 and the government of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis - which took office in June 2022 - will table its maiden Budget for FY 2023-2024 on March 9, officials said here on Wednesday.
The Budget Session will begin with the customary address by the Governor on the first day and the playing of the newly-ordained state song, "Jai Jai Maharashtra Majha" after the "Vande Mataram" in both Houses of the legislature.

Protesters seeking the release of Sikh prisoners clashed with police on Wednesday after a water cannon was used to prevent them from heading towards Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's residence in Chandigarh.
Police had put up barricades near the Chandigarh-Mohali border to prevent the protesters from moving towards the chief minister's residence.
When the protesters tried to force their way through the barricades, the Chandigarh Police resorted to using a water cannon to disperse them.
Sri Lanka's former finance minister Basil Rajapaksa ready to renounce US citizenship
Basil Rajapaksa, Sri Lanka's former finance minister and the younger brother of ousted president Gotabaya Rajapaksa, said he is ready to renounce his US citizenship, which he believed was an "obstacle" to his political career and robbing him the opportunity to serve the nation.
Basil, 71, who is a US passport holder, resigned as Sri Lanka's finance minister in April last year as anti-government protests intensified against severe shortages of fuel, food and other essentials.
Consequently, he quit his seat in Parliament in June 2022.
"I am ready to give up my US citizenship if dual citizenship was an obstacle to my future political activities. I am also ready to remove any other legal obstacle so that I can work for my people," he said during a television programme on Tuesday.
Class 12 student hangs self in Rajasthan's Bundi
A Class 12 student allegedly killed himself by hanging in the Nainwan town of Rajasthan's Bundi district, police said on Wednesday.
The 18-year-old was scheduled to appear for a practical examination at his school on Wednesday. When he did not turn up, his classmates reached his rented room and found him hanging from the ceiling fan.

ED arrests businessman son of former Punjab MLA in Delhi excise policy money laundering case
The Enforcement Directorate has arrested Punjab-based businessman Gautam Malhotra, the son of former SAD MLA and liquor baron Deep Malhotra, in connection with its money laundering investigation linked to alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy, officials said Wednesday.
Malhotra, promoter of the Oasis group of Punjab, was taken into custody under the criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The ICC on Wednesday confirmed that the second edition of the World Test Championship (WTC) Final between the top two Test-playing nations will take place at The Oval from June 7 to 11, with June 12 as the designated reserve day.

In view of above, the Education Ministry has requested 0/o CAG for a Special Audit of implementation of PM Poshan Scheme in the State of West Bengal for the last three financial years. This Audit will encompass compliance, performance and financial audit.
The Department of School Education and Literacy administers the PM Poshan Scheme vide which funds are provided to States, based on proposals received from them, for one hot cooked meal to eligible children in Classes I to VIII and Balvatika. PM Poshan Scheme benefits about 11.80 crore children in the country studying in 11.20 lakh Govt./Govt. aided schools.
